Journalists of D I Khan, including several senior journalists, protested Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to D I Khan for banning freedom of press.

The Journalists also compared the PM Shehbaz visit of D I Khan to the General Pervez Musharraf’s visit to D I Khan during his authoritarian regime.
The Journalists were unhappy with the behavior of the event organizers and boycotted the event.
Senior journalists said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to D I Khan reminded them of General Pervez Musharraf’s visit to D I Khan as freedom of press was restricted throughout the visit.
The organizers announced that only the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) and Pakistan Television (PTV) would cover the Prime Minister’s visit and local media were also not allowed to cover the Prime Minister’s visit.
Only 6 senior journalists, including senior journalists Muhammad Irfan Mughal, Correspondent of DAWN and ARY News from D I Khan and Saeedullah Marwat, Correspondent of Geo News, were invited to Ratta Kulachi Stadium for the ceremony.
The other invited senior journalists said that during the visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the restrictions imposed on freedom of press by the organizers reminded them of the D I Khan Jalsa during General Musharraf’s dictatorial regime.
Talking to The Asian Mirror, Muhammad Irfan Mughal, Correspondent of DAWN and ARY News from D I Khan told that no press gallery was made for the journalists in the program while paper, pens and mobile phones were also taken away from the journalists while entering.
Mr. Irfan Mughal said, during his dictatorial regime, General Musharraf also visited D I Khan and at the same Rata Kalachi Stadium where the ceremony of Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was held today, a ceremony was held in which like today’s ceremony journalists were not allowed to carry paper, pens and mobile phones with them to the event.

Other invited senior journalists said, today’s visit of the Prime Minister reminds of the visit of General Musharraf because freedom of press was banned in this visit of General Musharraf and even today freedom of press is openly banned.
The local Journalists of D I Khan was also very dissatisfied with the behaviour of organizers.
