‘I welcome ECP’s scrutiny of PTI’s funding through donations’, says PM

Government commits to transform Pakistan into welfare state

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan welcomed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s investigation into the PTI’s funding from overseas Pakistanis and said he looks forward to similar investigations into two other parties.

PTI’s funding

Imran Khan added that factual clarity about the PTI accounts will emerge as more of their accounts are investigated in a series of tweets from his own Twitter account.

“As more facts come out, the nation will understand how PTI is the only political party with a proper donor base based on proper political fundraising,” he remarked.

He also hoped the ECP will look into the funding of two major political parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) (PPP).

“This will enable the nation to distinguish between legitimate [political] fundraising and extortion of funds from crony capitalists and vested interests in exchange for favors at the expense of the nation.”

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is a political party in Pakistan. It was founded in 1996 by Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan, who served as the country’s prime minister from 2018 to 2022.

The PTI is one of the three major Pakistani political parties alongside the Pakistan Muslim League–Nawaz (PML–N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and it is the largest party in terms of representation in the National Assembly of Pakistan since the 2018 general election.

With over 10 million members in Pakistan and abroad, it claims to be the country’s largest political party by primary membership as well as one of the largest political parties in the world.
