ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved an increase in Karachi’s electricity bill in terms of fuel adjustment charges.
The electricity cost will be increased by Rs1.07 per unit in October due to a fuel adjustment, according to a notification published by the NEPRA.
According to the statement, the money will be received in January’s bills, and Karachi residents would have to bear an additional burden of Rs1.91 billion.
NEPRA held a hearing for fuel adjustment on November 3rd.
Consumers of K-Electric are likely to see an increase in their electricity bills of Rs5.50 per unit after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) yesterday deferred its decision on the company’s appeal for a power tariff hike under the fuel adjustment mechanism.
K-Electric, Karachi’s main power utility, had asked a Rs5.18 rise for July to September 2021, as well as a rupee of 0.32 for November.
Chairman NEPRA Tauseef Farooqi heard two different requests from the power utility to increase the price of energy by Rs5.50 per unit under fuel adjustment in the first quarter of the current financial year, July to September and November 2021.
When the hearing on the request for a power tariff increase came to a close, NEPRA stated that it will make a judgement after analysing all of the facts and numbers.
Meanwhile, a KE official has denied reports of a Rs5.50 per unit hike, stating that Karachi’s sole power supply provider has requested a 31 paisa per unit increase as part of the fuel adjustment.
