ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Election Commission (ECP) decided on Monday to hear a foreign funding case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after a seven-year wait.
The Pakistani Election Commission made the judgement after studying the report of the scrutiny committee. The country’s highest electoral court will hear the matter tomorrow, and the respondents have been served with letters to ensure their appearance.
According to sources familiar with the situation, the ECP’s scrutiny committee report will be delivered to the case’s respondents. The PTI foreign funding issue had been pending at the ECP for the last seven years.
Earlier, while speaking with journalists informally, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja stated that the report of the scrutiny committee had been received.
“The sealed report that the scrutiny committee forwarded is on my table, but I haven’t read it yet.”
The CEC stated that after de-sealing the report of the scrutiny committee, the Election Commission of Pakistan officials will evaluate it and decide on the next strategy in the future session.
