It is a famous hadith by the Prophet (be peace upon him) that; A Muslim is profitable whose today is better than his yesterday. This declaration urges humans to revamp their life standards. To follow the past and discern the future for this purpose is crucial. Apart from that, we cannot carry off the true essence of hadith.
Semesters pass directionless without much yield. In our public higher education zone, the main focus is on superficial quantity rather than quality. The content remains ignored. Learners start the semester without defining objectives for a particular course that execute correspondingly. Primarily, the pupils focus on waxing notes from former students, copying the data, and pasting it on paper. Consequently, the semester passes, and targets remain unfulfilled.
Instructors are uninformed of the structural mechanism of the semester system. The main reason is that the system does not train them periodically through training programs. They do not know the management of outlines, the conduct of effective classrooms, methods for engagement toward learning, and multifaceted assessment. So, they focus just on the rote memorization of textbook data. The system should encourage tutors to attend apprenticeships that are available free of cost on the internet.
A course outline is a cluster of multiple courses coherently. Each channel of the program has a pre-requisite and follow-up course. For effective outcomes, pre-requisite is crucial. Whenever the instructor starts a new teaching module, they do not notice the fulfillment of the pre-requisite. This academic negligence affects the follow-up streams as well. Instructors must heed the whole structure of the course outline. In other sense, semesters will continue to pass directionless and will not pay more.
Instructors do not know what to teach exactly – pupils do not know what to learn in a true sense. I have my observation in this regard – which can support my claim. A Bachelor of Physics course titled Vector Algebra
and Analysis is a part of modules of secondary-type courses. If we observe its structure, it is a very profound course that links algebra and vector knowledge. It has a follow-up course in classical mechanics that needs the perception of cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates. Initially, this course enables students to apply algebraic knowledge to vectors. The last block, the analysis zone, encourages applying this established knowledge to the practical study of planetary motion. Now, How We studied the above-told course is an untold story. The boring mechanism followed did not convey the profound sense of the program stream. However, the semester has passed.
The course is titled: How to manage the science and technology degree should be a crucial part of teacher training programs. Many guides are available on it. It will guide the instructor with the basic principles of degree management ranging from conducting effective classrooms to adaptable assessments.
Assessments should be all-rounded. In this information age, Disciplines are merging. The fourth industrial revolution is compelling the stakeholders to view technological advancements in the humanitarian sphere. It is not useless to deduce here that future education is multidisciplinary. Hence, the assessments of students should judge the knowledge seekers in their multiple unique centers.
What is meant by multidimensional assessments? It is the doorway to new assessment tactics in academia. In our orthodox academia, the whole process depends on the paper sheet and bilateral assignments. It is flawed in this information age. It only assesses the students in their memorizing power. The reason is that it primarily focuses on abstract data that is flowing on internet sites. The complex should introduce tutorials, collaborative tasks, and teamwork exercises in the classroom. Then, tutorials should ensure the assessment of these activities in the learning atmosphere.
In the book 21 lessons for the 21st century, the writer sketches the mechanism of education for the 21st century in the four C’s – critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. More broadly,
institutions should downplay technical and essential life skills. I hope that if we introduce this mechanism in the existing structure of our higher education sector-semesters will not be passed directionless.
In the context of the hadith of the Prophet (be peace upon him), today should be better than yesterday. It is not a magical mantra that can occur automatically. To accomplish the religious obligation, an initial startup in the shadow of the narrated procurements is crucial that requires human strive rather than the help of angels.
