NAB negates closing LDA plots inquiry against Nawaz Sharif

LAHORE: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday denied allegations that it has ended an investigation into PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif and others for allegedly improperly allotting Lahore Development Authority properties (LDA).

According to a representative for the agency, the investigation into the former prime minister is still ongoing, and such reports are part of a campaign against the national graft buster.

NAB has negated closing the LDA plots inquiry against Nawaz Sharif.

In September 2017, the National Accountability Bureau resumed an investigation into the illegal issuance of LDA plots to 13 people during Nawaz Sharif’s stint as Punjab chief minister in the late 1980s.

The investigation had previously been put on hold due to a lack of evidence. It was, however, re-launched in 2017. In 2000, an investigation was launched into former Punjab chief minister Nawaz Sharif for offering an exemption to plots connected to the LDA director general.

Sharif gave the plots to blue-eyed people after ending the quota under the LDA policy of 1986, which permitted the chairman to allot plots, according to the complaint.

Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is a Pakistani businessman and politician who has served as the Prime Minister of Pakistan for three non-consecutive terms. He is the longest-serving prime minister of Pakistan, having served a total of more than 9 years across three tenures. Each term has ended in his ousting.
