World Pneumonia Day was observed by t at the Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar. The objective was to raise awareness within the medical community about how to manage this fatal illness.
In this regard, a walk and an awareness workshop were planned. Along with the medical department students, specialty doctors also took part in the awareness workshop.
According to statistics provided by Professor Dr. Aqeel Khattak, the director of PEADS B, more than 100 children die from pneumonia every hour, and the WHO estimates that more than 700,000 children under the age of five pass away from this illness each year.
Every year, 1.6 million people die from the treatable and preventable disease of pneumonia, which sickens 155 million children under the age of five. As a result, pneumonia is now the leading cause of death in children under the age of five, taking more lives in this age range than AIDS, malaria, and measles put together.
Even though pneumonia causes a disproportionately high number of fatalities, it rarely makes news reports. The goal of World Pneumonia Day is to raise awareness of this public health emergency and to motivate both policymakers and community activists to fight the illness.
