The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police stated on Sunday that entry to the capital from Rawalpindi can be closed down on November 26 — the day when the former ruling party’s supporters will congregate in Rawalpindi to demand early elections. This announcement comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for the final showdown of its much-hyped long march.
Following PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s declaration that everyone will receive a “prize” on November 26, Islamabad IG Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan presided over an important meeting about public order.
Risks related to the anticipated PTI rally in the vicinity of the federal capital were evaluated during the discussion, and the overall security situation was also examined.
Islamabad will not allow any criminal activities, the ICT Police stated in a string of tweets. Additionally, it was stated that the entrance to the capital from Rawalpindi would be shut down on November 26. It stated that “any political action in Islamabad shall be done in compliance with the law and with the administration of the city’s authorization.”
The Red Zone will be more securely guarded, according to the Capital Police, who also announced the deployment of police, FC, and Rangers soldiers.
It stated that “search operations will be performed throughout the district keeping in mind the concerns of terrorism” and added that stern action will be taken against any kind of “obstruction”.
According to the Islamabad IG, every precaution will be taken to protect the lives and property of Islamabad residents.
The PTI leader spoke in Rawat on Saturday, about 200 meters from the federal capital. He did so via video link and declared that the march was temporarily coming to an end and that the next phase would begin in Rawalpindi on the 26th of the current month.
“Our campaign is still active. On November 26, we will assemble and demand fair elections,” he continued.
