The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) resolved to end the free Hajj facility for dignitaries and senior government officials on Thursday. Noor Alam Khan, the chairman of the PAC, presided over a meeting.
As a result of the country’s debt, the fact that government employees are not required to pay taxes, and the fact that they can perform the Hajj for free, according to Noor, this privilege should be removed. “All the information about who has utilised the free Hajj facility should be shared,” he continued. The committee has requested all the information from the relevant ministry, AGPR, within 15 days, and recovery would be made from the families of the public servants who undertook Hajj at no cost.
Before that, the Religious Affairs Ministry was contacted by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in June to provide clarification about a report that 200 ministry employees were supposed to be performing the Hajj at taxpayer expense.
According to Muhammad Abubakar Umer, the focal point for the prime minister on digital media, the leader has asked for an explanation. “Pakistan’s prime minister has asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs for an explanation. The Ministry of Religious Affairs often sends workers to assist pilgrims, but this story paints a different picture, for which an explanation has been sought “stated Umer in a tweet.
