Govt to consider army’s suggested name for COAS on Nov 18

On Tuesday, Federal Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif announced that a consultation on the selection of a new Army Chief will take place on November 18 or 19.

Khawaja Asif acknowledged that the Nawaz League does not have a preferred name for the position of new Army Chief when he spoke with the media on Tuesday in the Parliament Building.

Regarding the question of how a standoff might have developed between former presidents Asif Ali Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif over the name of the Army Chief, there hasn’t been any consultation on the matter yet.

The name submitted by the army for the position of army chief will merely be the subject of consultation, according to the defence minister.

He added that the army will evaluate the name once it has submitted the candidate for the position of army chief, which it has not done as of yet.

The leader of the PML-N criticised the chairman of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, saying that legal action should be taken in response to the former premier’s recent words since he is meddling with the interests of the country.

Imran Khan of the PTI, according to Kh Asif, is damaging foreign relations by levelling accusations. He continued by saying that it is wrong for Imran Khan to compromise the honour and integrity of the nation for his own gain.
