Study reveals not only humans but rats can also dance to Lady Gaga’s songs

Researchers from the University of Tokyo have discovered that animals other than humans can also bop their heads and dance to Lady Gaga and other singers’ music.

The curious scientists discovered that the rats also bowed their heads in time to the music when they played various popular songs by Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, and other vocalists as well as a Mozart Sonata at four tempos.

The first animal to show that it could nod to music was a cockatoo that did so to a Backstreet Boys song.

They came to the conclusion that dance was not just for humans.

The purpose of the recent study, which was published in Science Advances, was to determine whether rats, which are frequently utilized in lab settings, also reacted to music in the same manner. Takashi stated that the “neural mechanism underlying this empirical fact” will help us better understand music’s potential. Music “exercises a strong appeal to the brain and has significant effects on emotion and cognition.”

On ten lab rats, researchers implanted tiny, wireless accelerometers. Even the smallest movements might be detected by these tiny sensors. First, four distinct tempos of one-minute segments from Mozart’s Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major, K. 448 were performed.

They also played popular songs including Another One Bites the Dust by Queen, Sugar by Maroon 5, and Beat It by Michael Jackson.

Twenty individuals with accelerometers on them were also included in the investigation. The outcomes revealed that both rats and people had reacted similarly. It’s interesting to note that faster music also reduced head-jerking in both groups.
