CTD takes over inquiry into Wazirabad firing incident

The investigation into the firing incident during the long march of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in Wazirabad was handed over to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Friday.

The accused, identified as Naveed, was transferred to the CTD headquarters in Lahore, according to police sources.

The accused will be interrogated by the CTD’s higher authorities. The incident will be reported to the CTD police station or the Wazirabad City police station.

It should be noted that PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other party leaders were injured after the accused fired gunshots near the long march container.

The incident claimed the life of one person.

In an earlier statement to police that was leaked to the media, Naved justified his actions by claiming Imran Khan was misleading the public and admitting he attempted to assassinate him but failed.

He expressed his displeasure that music was being played during the call to prayer.

He stated that he could not bear the fact that Imran Khan was misinforming the public, which is why he attacked him.

Naveed went on to say that he had made the decision to kill Imran the day he began his long march from Lahore. He claimed that he acted alone and that no one supported him.

Later, Punjab Chief Minister Ch Parvez Elahi suspended the entire staff of the Wazirabad Police Station, including the SHO, for leaking the video statement of the accused who fired gunshots at Imran Khan.

The Punjab Chief Minister took serious note of the suspect’s video leak. The CM directed the Punjab Police Inspector General to take strict disciplinary action against irresponsible officials and ordered an investigation into the incident.

The phones of all Wazirabad police station employees were seized, and a forensic audit of police officers’ phones will be conducted.
