Lee Jihan, youngest K-Pop singer, also died in Halloween stampede
Over 150 people were killed after a mob surge during Halloween celebrations in Seoul, South Korea, including a South Korean musician and actor. On Saturday, while Lee Jihan was enjoying Halloween in the Itaewon neighbourhood, commotion broke out on the incredibly congested streets, resulting in a crush of people. He was 24 at the time.

The star’s passing was announced in a public announcement by Lee’s agencies, 935 Entertainment and 9Ato Entertainment. The statement, which was written in Korean, stated in simple language on a black background: “We are unhappy to bring such news today, but Lee Jihan passed suddenly in the crush in Itaewon last night.”
The statement said, “We would like to extend our sincere sympathies to his family, who are grieved by the sudden unfortunate news, as well as to everyone who loved him.”

As collapse during Halloween celebrations in Seoul, South Korea killed dozens. According to the head of the Yongsan Fire Department, an incident at Halloween celebrations in Seoul’s Itaewon neighbourhood on Saturday night resulted in at least 59 fatalities. The chief said, “At least 150 others were injured as well.”
The chief claimed that many people collapsed during the Halloween activities, which led to casualties, however he did not immediately disclose the reason of the deaths. Earlier, Yonhap News Agency cited fire authorities when reporting that people had experienced “cardiac arrest.” At least 81 people in Seoul’s Itaewon area reported “difficulty breathing” to emergency personnel.
The specific cause of the tragedy is yet unknown according to the authorities.
People were lying in the streets and on stretchers while emergency personnel provided treatment, as seen in social media videos as police cordoned off the area.
A total of 848 emergency response personnel, including 364 firefighters and 400 police officers, have been sent, according to the fire chief. According to the presidential office, South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol dispatched a disaster medical support team to the Halloween tragedy.
