Pakistan records only two Covid-19 deaths

Only two people have died and 359 people have been infected by the coronavirus epidemic in Pakistan in the last 24 hours (Wednesday). Pakistan has seen only two Covid-19 deaths for the second time in four days.

According to numbers issued by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday morning, the overall death toll has now risen to 28,894 with the inclusion of two new deaths, while the total number of infections has now risen to 1,292,406 after the addition of 359 new cases.

A total of 46,564 tests were done across Pakistan in the last 24 hours (Wednesday), with a positivity rate of 0.77 percent. There were 666 patients in critical care.

510 people have recovered from the virus in the last 24 hours (Wednesday), bringing the overall number of recoveries to 1,254,104. The overall number of active cases in the country was 9,408 as of Thursday.

So far, 479,890 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 444,380 cases in Punjab, 181,088 cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 108,354 cases in Islamabad, 33,614 cases in Balochistan, 34,651 cases in Azad Kashmir, and 10,429 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Furthermore, the pandemic has claimed the lives of 13,061 people in Punjab, 7,658 in Sindh, 5,916 in KP, 964 in Islamabad, 745 in Azad Kashmir, 363 in Balochistan, and 186 in Gilgit Baltistan thus far.

Pakistan records only two Covid-19 deaths. According to a total calculated by AFP on Wednesday from government sources, the coronavirus has killed at least 5,368,777 people since the outbreak began in China in December 2019.

With 810,164 deaths from Covid, the United States leads the pack, followed by Brazil (617,948), India (478,325), and Russia (300,269).

The World Health Organization predicts that the overall death toll could be two to three times greater if extra mortality attributable to Covid-19 is factored in.
