D I Khan: Growers blocked CPEC Highway amid delay in repair of CRBC Canal
Growers, Farmers and Landowners staged a sit-in protest at Mufti Mahmood Chowk and blocked the main CPEC Highway for traffic over the closure and delay in repair of Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC).
During the recent unprecedented floods, the local landowners, farmers and growers held a demonstration at Mufti Mahmood Chowk against the delay in repair work and non-supply of water to Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) as the season of wheat sowing is ending.
By erecting barricades on the main road and burning tires, the protestors blocked the main CPEC Highway for all kinds of traffic, due to which long queues of vehicles were formed on both sides of the road.
The protesters said the farmers are facing serious difficulties due to the delay in the repair work of the flood-affected Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) and non-supply of water for irrigation of crops and sowing of wheat.
Due to non-supply of water, on the one hand, the standing crops of sugarcane is being damaged while on the other hand, water is not available for timely sowing of wheat, which is not only harming the farmers, but there is a fear of food shortage in the entire province, including Dera Ismail Khan.
They added in this situation, the negligence and laziness of the elected representatives, district administration and federal and provincial governments is regrettable, so the repair work of Chashma Right Bank Canal (CRBC) should be started immediately.
