Supreme Court acquits Shahrukh Jatoi, others in Shahzeb murder case

Shahrukh Jatoi, who had been given a death sentence by an anti-terrorism court in 2012 for the murder of Shahzeb, was acquitted by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

After learning that both parties had reached an out-of-court settlement, the top court likewise exonerated all of the defendants.

The case was considered by the three-judge Supreme Court bench, presided over by Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

Latif Khosa, the accused’s attorney, informed the court that a deal had been reached and that the accused had no desire to spread “fear.”

He added that a murder case had unluckily been exposed as terrorism. He continued that the Supreme Court’s ruling on terrorism was quite clear.

Shahrukh Jatoi and Nawab Siraj Talpur received death sentences from the trial court, while Nawab Sajjad Ghulam Murtaza received a life sentence.

The accused also filed appeals with the Supreme Court after the Sindh High Court modified the death sentences to life terms.

Young Shahzeb, the sole child of a retired DSP, was murdered by Shahrukh Jatoi in December 2012 at the Defence Housing Authority. In 2013, an ATC sentenced him to death.

Shahrukh Jatoi was “pardoned” by the complaint side in 2017 in accordance with Qisas and Diyat law in the nation. But in 2018, the Pakistani Supreme Court paid attention to it. The Sindh High Court subsequently commuted his death sentence to life in jail.
