Heavy battle in east Ukraine, Russian drones assault central Kiev
As its forces experience setbacks on the battlefield, Russia launched strikes across Ukraine for the second time in a week on Monday. Drones attacked the centre of Kyiv during morning rush hour, and it also shelled other cities across the nation.
After the explosions shook central Kiev, soldiers fired into the air in an effort to kill down drones. People left for safety. Before an explosion and orange flames, an anti-aircraft rocket could be seen flying into the morning sky.
Later, remnants of a drone used in the attack were discovered by Reuters and had the inscription “For Belgorod”—a possible allusion to Ukrainian shelling of a Russian territory bordering Ukraine.
Exactly one week prior to the attacks, during the morning rush hour, Russia launched its biggest aerial bombardment on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities since the war’s beginning.
“The adversary terrorises the civilian population day and night. All of Ukraine is under attack from kamikaze drones and rockets. In Kiev, a residential building was struck” Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president, stated on the messaging service Telegram.
“Our towns can be attacked by the enemy, but it won’t be able to defeat us. Only just punishment and the censure of future generations await the occupiers. And we will triumph.”
No information about blast-related casualties was available right away. Russia has been using more of these Iranian-made “suicide drones,” which fly to their target and explode, according to Ukraine, which said they were involved in the Kyiv strikes.
Iran denies giving Russia drones. The Kremlin has made no remarks.
According to Josep Borrell, the chief diplomat for the EU, more penalties on Iran may be considered by foreign ministers gathering in Luxembourg if there is proof that Iran is providing drones to Russia
Russia has charged Ukraine with attacking targets close to the border in the Belgorod region. On the social media platform Telegram, pro-Russian news outlets claimed that Ukraine had attacked the airport in Belgorod overnight. Kyiv, which ordinarily doesn’t comment on events in Russia, made no immediate statement.
The largest nuclear reactor in Europe, Zaporizhzhia, was again cut off from the Ukrainian electricity system on Monday as a result of renewed Russian bombardment in the area, according to the Ukrainian state energy company Energoatom.
Russian military are occupying the plant, which has frequently been attacked throughout the conflict, but Ukrainian employees run it.

After an explosion on October 8 damaged a road-and-rail bridge connecting mainland Russia to Crimea, the peninsula Moscow annexed in 2014, British military intelligence reported on Monday that Russia was experiencing more severe logistical issues in southern Ukraine.
