Dozens killed many injured in Russia’s attack on Zaporizhzhya
Dozens of people were killed in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhya after the Russian army shelled the city overnight, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
“Overnight, Russian occupiers cynically attacked residential buildings and civilian infrastructure,” the army’s central command said on its Facebook page on Sunday.
“Casualty information is confirmed, but dozens of dead or injured are already known.”
Earlier, city official Anatoliy Kurtev said at least 17 people were killed in a night bombardment.
“As a result of a night missile attack on Zaporizhzhya, apartment buildings and streets in a residential area of the city were damaged,” local official Anatoliy Kurtev, secretary of the city administration, wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
“At the moment it is known that 17 people have died.” Russia is under increasing pressure on the battlefield in Ukraine as Ukrainian forces continue a counter-offensive that began in the Kharkiv region early last month.
