PM Shehbaz directs uninterrupted gas supply in winter

ISLAMABAD: On Saturday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave the appropriate instructions to guarantee that home and commercial consumers of natural gas have a continuous supply during the winter.

He gave the authorities the go-ahead to form a committee to address the problem with the textile mills’ gas supply while presiding over a meeting in Lahore. Sui Southern Gas Company and Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited representatives will serve on the committee.

In a meeting, it was also determined to keep the length of electrical load-shedding at the same level.

In order to satisfy the demand for January, the prime minister also issued directives to substantially expand fertiliser imports.

The meeting was attended by the Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the Minister of State for Petroleum Musadiq Malik, the Prime Minister’s Advisor Ahad Cheema, and other government representatives.

Shehbaz Sharif had instructed the relevant authorities to formulate an immediate action plan on September 29 in order to guarantee uninterrupted gas delivery to customers throughout the impending winter season.

The directives were given by the prime minister as he presided over an urgent meeting to discuss the problem with the supply of gas to residential and commercial customers.

PM Sharif has issued a warning that any carelessness or poor management in the supply of gas would not be accepted.

He had underlined the importance of making sure domestic consumers had access to gas, especially while cooking.

The prime minister had criticised the Tehreek-e-Insaf government of Pakistan for failing to take advantage of the opportunity to buy gas at a discount on the world market during the COVID-19 pandemic.
