Leading specialists at this European Economic and Social Committee EESC meeting in Brussels on Friday stated that the number of homeless people in the EU has increased by 70% over the past ten years. According to a conservative estimate, there are 700000 homeless persons in the bloc of 27 countries.

Renters will pay more if a landlord has a mortgage because of this. Is there a motivation for politicians to act since homeless people do not cast ballots?

Those who have been homeless say it’s a really challenging circumstance to get out of. Critics claim that if EU leaders had used diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine, the current economic crisis and the ensuing social unrest could have been avoided.

Some political analysts have proposed that one way the EU may reduce its escalating homelessness crisis would be for Western countries to embrace a less assertive foreign policy, which would prevent further displacing millions of additional people.

If we are serious about creating a just and inclusive society, it is morally necessary to drastically reduce homelessness in Europe.

The Minister of Labour, Solidarity, and Social Security of Portugal is Ana Mendes Godinho; Nicolas Schmit is the European Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights; and Yves Leterme is the Chair of the EU Platform on Combating Homelessness.
