Ishaq Dar swore in as Federal Finance Minister
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Ishaq Dar was sworn in as Federal Finance Minister on Wednesday after Miftah Ismail formally resigned as Finance Minister. The oath of Ishaq Dar was taken by President Arif Alvi. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also attended the swearing-in ceremony at Aiwan-i-Sadr.
Federal ministers, parliamentarians, and senior officials took part in the swearing-in ceremony. Former Senate President Sadiq Sanjrani was sworn in as a senator by former finance minister Ishaq Dar amid protests from opposition members.
Opposition members protested vehemently and surrounded the Senate President’s podium as the PML-N leader was sworn in as a Senate member. Ishaq Dar, a loyal PML-N and close confidant of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, returned to Pakistan on Monday after finishing his five-year self-exile.
Speaking to reporters at Nur Khan Air Base in Chaklala on Tuesday, he said Supreme PML-N Nawaz Sharif and the Prime Minister have given him responsibility for the Finance Ministry. “I will do my best to fulfill all responsibilities. We will try to take the country out of the economic vortex that has been blocked as we did in 1998 and 2013.”
