New Delhi: Curfew imposed in Muslim dominated area Okhla
The Modi government continues its crackdown on Popular Frontof India (PFI) in Muslim dominated area, Okhla. In light of the police imposing a curfew in the Okhla, neighbourhood of Delhi under section 144 of the CrPC, Jamia Millia Islamia, central university in New Delhi, has requested that its students and faculty refrain from congregating on or near the campus.
The chief proctor of the university said in a notice released on Monday that the police officer of the Jamia Nagar police station had informed him that the restrictions had been put in place as of September 19 because it had been learned that some individuals or groups might engage in activities detrimental to the upkeep of peace.
The notice further said that the restrictions will last till November 17 in the entire Okhla (Jamia Nagar) region, according to the official. To uphold law and order, paramilitary personnel have also been called.
But the police denied that the order is related to the ongoing action against the Popular Front of India (PFI).
The Curfew Act’s under Section 144 of theCrPC forbids gatherings of four or more individuals in one place. Section 188 of the IPC provides for penalties for violating the order.
According to the notice from the chief proctor, all Jamia Millia Islamia students, faculty, and staff are advised not to congregate inside or outside the campus in groups or as part of any march, agitation, dharna, or meeting in light of the directive.
A day after Jamia’s teachers planned a nonviolent protest march against the imposed curfew in NEw Delhi’s Ohkla. In this regard, the announcement was made.
On September 19, the Jamia Nagar neighbourhood was subject to a curfew under section 144 of the CrPC, according to a directive from the assistant commissioner of police of New Friends Colony.

In accordance with the directive, the police have made it illegal to carry a “mashal” (torch), live flames, live fire candles, or live fire in any other form during processions, rallies, or other events taking place within the New Friends Colony subdivision’s territorial jurisdiction.
The order went into effect on September 19 and, unless it is revoked sooner, will be in effect for 60 days, or until November 17 in this case.
