Street Crimes

He stated that earlier petty criminals who used to take advantage of the dark of the night were now openly mugging people in broad daylight whereas, adding the law enforcement agencies, instead of deterring crime were watching the sordid state of affairs powerlessly, he said.

The survey revealed that mobile shops even in broad daylight had been robbed in busy commercial areas of the city, depriving citizens of cash and valuables at gunpoint.

On the other hand, most of the streets in the city and its close vicinity have been facing street lights, turning them dark after nightfall.

Also, the survey revealed that after the government announced a cut on fuel quota for certain departments in that to overcome rising prices of petroleum products in the international market.

Earlier the police department had been allowed 300 liters of fuel for its mobile teams’ vans. But in line with the fresh decision of the government which had been reduced to 195 liters which is inadequate at all.

Residents have called upon the federal government to accord exemption for the police department to ensure better policing as well as maintain précised law and order in the urban areas.
