Governor KP sends VC Gomal University on forced leave
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Acting Governor Mushtaq Ghani sent Gomal University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad on forced leave for 90 days after the VC showed the inability to distribute the assets between Gomal University and the University of Agriculture D I KKhan, a notification issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department said.
A notification issued by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Higher Education Department said “Whereas it is established that the incumbent Vice Chancellor of Gomal University Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed has shown his inability to implement the Assets Distribution between Gomal University and the University of Agriculture D I Khan, therefore in exercise of powers vested in him (Governor KP) under Section 12(8) of the Act ibid, the Acting Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/Chancellor Gomal University D I Khan, on the advice of Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Article 105 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan has been pleased to send Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad. Vice Chancellor Gamal University DI Khan on forced leave for 90 days with immediate effect”.
The notification further added that “He has further been pleased to assign additional charge of the post of Vice Chancellor Gomal University DI Khan to Prof. Dr. Masroor Ellahi Babar, Vice Chancellor University of Agriculture D I Khan till further orders”.
The provincial cabinet had approved the up-gradation of the faculty of Agriculture, Gomal University D I Khan to a full-fledged University of Agriculture D.I.Khan on March 16, 2021, and constituted a committee for asset distribution between the two universities.
The syndicate of Gomal University had also endorsed these recommendations of this committee. The Senate of Gomal University on June 22, 2022, decided to hold a meeting of the Assets Distribution Committee (ADC) to sort out an amicable solution to the issue of assets distribution acceptable for both parties.
The ADC met under the chair of the Acting Governor and Chancellor of Gomal University and decided that the Gomal University Vice Chancellor should implement the distribution of the assets made by the cabinet-constituted committee within July. But Dr. Iftikhar remained unable to implement the distribution of the assets.
Recently, the Vice-Chancellor closed the educational activities in the university due to protests from the students and law and order issues on the main campus of the varsity.

The Vice-Chancellor also got cases registered against the protesting students and wrote a letter to the chancellor of the university that former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur threatened him. It is worth mentioning here that earlier on April 22,201, Vice Chancellor Dr. Iftikhar was sent to forced leave by the then Governor Shah Farman.
