There will be a new course on animal welfare in schools.
Salman Sufi, the head of the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit, tweeted on Saturday that a specific course about animal welfare and animal rights would be implemented in Islambad’s schools.
He wrote, “A specific course on animal welfare is being designed and will be launched in schools of the ICT region.
In order to help them become better citizens, he added, “Children shall be introduced with compassion and a humanitarian perspective toward animals.”
In an interview with The Current, Salaman Sufi discussed how the Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit is planning the curriculum and how they are receiving input from both public and private schools in Islamabad as well as from other animal rights organisations.
The lesson will be formalised in three to four weeks, according to Sufi, who also said that it will integrate Islamic references to teach kids about animal care.
The Prime Minister’s Strategic Reforms Unit will only be able to make a little contribution, he added, but this is the worst time for animal rights and it can only be resolved by education and teaching people not to follow our example.
