Iranian media stays skeptical on Mahsa Amini’s death

22-year-old Iranian women, Mahsa Amini, died days after country’s morality police arrested her for not putting up with Hijab rules. The victim was apparently travelling from the southern province of Iran to the capital with her family when the morality police detained her for not abided by the law. The case went on too many opinions. One included where the police had beaten her up in the van which is unabashedly denied by the police department.

Another shocking factor in this spine-chilling incident coming from Iran is about the country’s media who do not seem to share the news as much as it deserves. It is a hugely horrifying and terrorizing incident and does seem to gather the attention world over especially in Iran. Still, media is failing highly to highlight the incident so that it sends a lesson to the people of Iran about the law and order the country upholds & how the world perceives Iran’s Judiciary.

Iranian media stays skeptical on Mahsa Amini’s death

International media seems to take naïve and rather skeptical approach. Therefore, international human right agencies are keen to know what kind of narrative are they trying to sell?

The biggest Iranian cells include Resalat, Hamshahri, Ettelaat, Kayhan news Agencies. The English language-based newspapers are Iran Daily & Tehran times. But the largest media corporation in Iran is Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) but did not highlight the issue properly.

This news is also important in the context that Iran president, Ebrahim Raisi, had recently ordered to bring a rather strict crackdown on women who do not abide by the country’s law & order of Hijab. The incident happened after just few days after his order.

The family, however, was told that their daughter would be released after just a random re-education session. But after Mahsa Amini was taken to hospital, even then the family was informed that she’d be home soon. Post her death, an extra human rights security has been imposed outside the hospital Mahsa was admitted in.
