Resham apologizes for throwing plastic waste into river
Actress Resham has drawn public anger for throwing plastic waste into a river as she traveled to Charsadda to help flood victims on Sunday. After her video went viral, many people including celebrities criticized her for contributing to Pakistan’s environmental problem.
After initially calling people a “troll”, the actor issued a public apology. On Wednesday, she took to Instagram and shared a video of herself apologizing to her followers and the nation at large. “First of all, please accept my apologies, because what happened should not have happened. It was inadvertently, not intentionally, and for that, I apologize to the entire nation. Personally, I am against litter and it is our duty to keep our country clean. I’m human too and everyone makes mistakes, so am I,” she said.
She called it the “biggest mistake” of her career and said she would try to ensure it never happens again. She ended her video with a heartfelt apology. The viral music video showed the actress getting out of her car on a highway to distribute the bread and meat she was carrying. What annoyed people was that when Resham stopped at the edge of the viaduct and recorded how she threw food into the river, she also threw the plastic containers and bags the food entered.

The criticism has come from internet users and celebrities such as Meesha Shafi and Shaneira Akram. Following the criticism, the actress gave an interview to the Friday Times, where she said there are more pressing issues to worry about. “Women are raped here every day. Violence against women is on the agenda. I was just offering Sadaqah [charity],” she said.
“I am in Charsadda as we speak. I discreetly helped thousands of people in the disaster district. But of course, people are only interested in trolling me. I also do a lot of good, ”she said.
