Essential medicines out of reach in Punjab

Punjab, which is the most populated province of Pakistan, is facing a shortage of more than 40 medicines. Not only this, the prices of life-saving medicines increased by 21% in September 2022. It is worth mentioning that there is a scarcity of dozens of life-saving medicines due to which the patients are enduring a lot of complications.

It is woeful to know that these medicines are also not available in governmental hospitals and the medical market. Medicines for mental stress, joint pain, asthma, and cancer. There is also a shortage of useful drugs in the market, drugs to prevent heart attacks, lung infection drugs, and blood thinners are also not available in medical stores.

Medicines for diabetes, heartburn, blood pressure, and hepatitis have also disappeared, with a total shortage of more than 40 drugs, inducing severe anxieties for patients. On the other hand, the drug regulatory authority has failed to regulate drug prices. According to pharmaceutical manufacturers, imports of raw materials have stopped due to the sales tax, which has increased the cost of production. I plead to the government to control the prices of medicines and useful drugs so that patients must not confront any difficulties.
