Lahore: In the cases of Deans of the Faculty of Chemical Metallurgical and Polymer Engineering and Faculty of Architecture and Planning at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), the series of favors on the favorite junior professors by the Vice-Chancellor has been noticed.
According to the sources, the tenure of the current deans of the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical & Polymer Engineering and the Faculty of Architecture & Planning is expiring after one month. According to the University Act, the Vice Chancellor will forward the names of three senior professors of the faculty to the Chancellor through the HED for the appointment of the new Dean for the next term.
But Vice-Chancellor UET Syed Mansoor Sarwar, in violation of the University Act, ignored the names of the third-ranked candidates in the first three seniors and sent the name of the fourth-ranked Professor to the Punjab government.
Complaints were sent by the affected professor to the governor of Punjab and chancellor Balighur Rehman on the ministerial violation of merit. Among the three proposed names that have been sent from the Faculty of Chemical, Metallurgical & Polymer Engineering, Dr. Naveed Ramadan, Dr. Asif Ali Qaiser, and Dr. Furqan are included.
According to the seniority list of Professors, Dr. Furqan is in the fourth position in this faculty, while Dr. Muhammad Asif Rafiq is in the third position. The name of Dr. Asif Rafique has not been included in the name list which is a clear violation of the Act. Similarly, in the Faculty of Architecture & Planning, the three names sent to the governor by HED include Dr. Rizwan Hameed, Dr. Ubaidullah, and Dr. Shakir Mahmood.
Professor Dr. Ijaz Ahmed, who stands third in this faculty, has been ignored. While the fourth-numbered professor Dr. Shakir Mahmood has been added. According to sources in the Governor’s House, the neglected professors have written on the violation of merit and law.
Similarly, the vice chancellor ignored senior professors in various departments and appointed junior teachers as heads of the department. According to the Act, this authority was with the Syndicate which has been taken over by the incumbent Vice-Chancellor. Meanwhile, in New Campus (Kala Shah Kaku), a junior professor has been appointed as campus coordinator while ignoring the senior professors.
