UN CHIEF TO PAY A SOLIDARITY VISIT TO PAKISTAN

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his statement said that he will make a ‘solidarity visit’ to Pakistan which has been hit by flood calamities. The visit is expected on Sept 9,2022.

The historic floods have affected millions of children, men and women in Pakistan, Secretary General will have a solidarity visit to Pakistan. Stephane Dujarric has told reporters of New York that Secretary General will arrive in Islamabad and later on he will visit the flood affected areas and the families who have faced unprecedented challenges due to flood.

Pakistan’s permanent UN representative Munir Akram has welcomed the announcement. According to him, “This is a demonstration of solidarity of Secretary General with the people and government of Pakistan in this hour of need & his determination to mobilize the entire UN system to respond to this human catastrophe,”

Earlier on Tuesday, the UN chief issued an appeal of $160 million for helping millions of people who have been facing the disaster, which has killed more than 1,000 people countrywide. Guterres also mentioned that Pakistan is suffering and people are facing monsoon which has relentless impact of epochal rain and flooding.

In the wake of flood disaster, international media along side different states of the world have stepped forward to provide humanitarian assistance to Pakistan in this difficult time. Although, flood crisis might have a long lasting impact on people of Pakistan but the way countries across the world are helping in an hours need of Pakistan is giving much support to the country, for mitigating the risks posed by the flood.
