Sedition Case: Shahbaz Gill willing to apologize

Shahbaz Gill willing to apologize in Sedition Case.

Shahbaz Gill, the PTI leader who is now behind bars, has informed the court through his attorney that he is ready to apologize for any misunderstanding over the sedition charge brought against him.

On Monday (today), the hearing of a petition asking for interim bail of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill, who is currently being held in custody on charges of sedition, was resumed by Additional District and Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal.

Gill was detained near the capital’s Bani Gala Chowk on August 9, a day after making contentious comments on a private TV program.

Charges of sedition and instigating members of state institutions against the Pakistan Army led to his arrest.

Inspector Rashid with the records pertaining to Gill’s sedition case entered the courtroom at the beginning of today’s session.

Gill’s attorney, Burhan Moazzam, asked the court for the file and any testimony or evidence against his client.

At this point, the court instructed the police to provide Gill’s attorney access to the record.

The police gave Gill’s attorney access to the file; however, Raja Rizwan Abbasi, the prosecutor, requested that the court forbid the attorneys from photographing the documents.

The prosecutor said, “We will exchange records (with the suspect’s attorneys), but we cannot show them supplemental.”

After accepting Gill’s plea, the court ordered the police to provide Gill’s attorney access to the records and adjourned the case until today at 11 am.

After the break, when the court resumed hearing, Gill’s attorney protested that the police were not disclosing the statement that his client had given that had been recorded in accordance with Section 161 of the Criminal Procedure Code by the investigating officer.

Five more persons were then arrested in connection with the case, according to his lawyer, who claimed that the plaintiff, a city magistrate, accused Gill of sedition.

Moazzam claims, “My client did not even think of sedition,” adding that the case had been brought after several elements from the transcript had been taken into consideration.

His attorney stated, “There is a mistake somewhere in this entire remark,” adding that his client is prepared to clear up the issue.

By making numerous arguments, his attorney informed the court that Shahbaz Gill was prepared to apologize in Sedition Case in order to put an end to the misunderstanding.

He also questioned who had the authority to bring the sedition case.
