Asia Cup: Hong Kong makes it into main round

After defeating the UAE by an eight-wicket margin in the final qualifier on Wednesday at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground, Hong Kong has earned a spot in the Asia Cup 2022 main phase.

Hong Kong, who topped the table by winning all three of their matches in the preliminaries, joined Pakistan and India in Group-A.

Hong Kong chose to include the UAE in their most recent qualification match. In 19.3 overs, they bowled out their opponents for 147 runs. Hong Kong reached the mark in 19 overs thanks to outstanding batting and bowling performances.

By holding Singapore to 148 runs, Hong Kong got the qualifiers off to a strong start. Ehsah Khan’s excellent period (3/20) was the game’s high point.

Then, in the second game, they played Kuwait, and by thrashing their opponents, they topped the points standings. Yasim Murtaza (46) and Nizakat Khan (50) helped Hong Kong surpass Kuwait’s 151-run goal, setting the stage for an outstanding chase. For Hong Kong, Babar Hayat also smashed a fantastic 53 off 30 balls.

The UAE will host the Asia Cup in 2022, using the Twenty20 International format. The significant cricket competition will begin on August 27 and last until September 11.

India, Pakistan, and Hong Kong are now in Group A of the two groups made up of the six Asian teams. Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have been placed in Group B. Each group’s top two teams advance to the Super 4 round. The top two teams from the Super 4 round will compete in the final.

India has won seven championships, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. India won the 2018 competition, making them the reigning champions.
