A 15-person squad has been chosen by New Zealand Cricket for the forthcoming Chappell-Hadlee series against Australia. Beginning on September 6, Trans-Tasman rivals will play a three-match ODI series.
The majority of the touring team are the same players who defeated West Indies in the just-completed ODI series by a score of 2-1. Matt Henry, who missed the three-game series due to injury, is called up to the team now that he is fully healthy. After being initially selected as Henry’s substitute for the ODI series against the West Indies, right-arm bowler Ben Sears is still part of the team. Ish Sodhi, a wrist spinner, as well as Henry Nicholls and Will Young, all batsmen, were left off the list.
The roster for the bilateral series includes Trent Boult, whose decision to be left off the core contract list has drawn criticism. After the Australia-hosted T20 World Cup in 2022, the left-arm seamer’s position in the national side is anticipated to decline.
It’s a fantastic rivalry we have with Australia; it’s always a major occasion for the fans, and the players really look forward to it, New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson said on the official website of New Zealand Cricket. We are excited for the challenge because we are aware of how difficult it will be to defeat Australia in their own circumstances.
In Sodhi’s absence, Mitchell Santner, the Player of the Series in the Caribbean, will serve as the top spinner. The secondary spin bowling option for the New Zealand team is Michael Bracewell. Williamson has only played one ODI match in the last two and a half years, so it’s assumed that he’ll be looking for more opportunities. The right-handed batter’s quad injury prevented him from playing in the second or third One Day Internationals against the West Indies.
The Cazalys Stadium in Cairns, Queensland, will host all of the Chappell-Hadlee series’ contests. The ODI matches are slated to take place on September 6, 8, and 11 in that order.
