The demonstration was held here on Friday in Tehsil Prova of D I khan District in which indignant protesters burnt tires blocking the Indus Highway for all traffic due to the destrcution caused by flash floods after torrential rains.
The flash flood coming from the Koh-e-Sulaiman mountain range has entered the city of Prova. Accusing the local administration of not taking efficient steps to protect the population from any damage, the local residents protested.
Protesters blocked the road for traffic by burning tires at Chaudhwan turn on Indus Highway.
The demonstrators said the Indus Highway has blocked the way of flood water due to which the flood water is causing extensive damage in Prova instead of passing through the are, we apprised the local administration many times to take the notice of destruction caused by flood, but the administration officers are not taking our problems into their account.
They said the protest will continue until the Indus Highway is cut and the flood water is passed.
In the last two days, the floods have affected many villages of Daraban and Prova Tehsils of D I Khan District.
The protestors alleged that due to the negligence of the local administration, the flash flood entering the city of Prova are posing serious threats to the population.
The protestors demanded that the Indus Highway road should be cut near the Chaudhwan Morr and the water should be diverted to the Indus River to protect the population of Prova city from the ravages of floods.
Likewise, the flood has also caused destruction in Chandna village of Prova Tehsil. The flood situation forced the poor people to relocate.
The local people said no assistance is being provided to us by the elected representatives, district administration while the standing crops have also been damaged due to the flood.
The residents of the area said the nullahs have broken due to the flash flood coming from the mountains, due to which the flood water has entered the urban population.
Leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Maulana Fazlur Rehman had visited the affected area to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and announced a package for the rehabilitation of flood victims but no implementation has been done by the district administration.
The people of Chandna and its surrounding villages have demanded from the federal government, the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the district government that for god’s sake the old nullahs which were built during the British Raj should be repaired immediately.
Local social worker Haris Khan has requested financial assistance from NDMA and PDMA to rehabilitate the flood affectees so that they can have a roof to shelter and live a peaceful life with their families.
