World Humanitarian Day is celebrated every year on August 19 for honouring all the humanitarian workers, contributing in number of ways all over the world. It was first established in year 2009 by United Nations. From that time till now onwards, this day marks as the anniversary of the bombing of the United Nations headquarters located in Iraq. As more than 22 people lost their lives, including the UN’s High Commissioner working on Human Rights.
It will be pertinent to say that all over the world the Humanitarian aid workers provide life-saving assistance and services to the people suffering all over the globe. Those humanitarian workers who serves their life in conflict zones or in those areas which are devastated by natural disasters are mostly at risk.
The day pays tribute to all the humanitarian workers who serve their lives in helping and facilitating other people by suffering injuries within the course of their work. It has been observed that by the year 2021, around 235 million people in approximately 26 countries required humanitarian assistance. This day is celebrated in honour of all those people who provide support and protection to all the ones in need.
With recent Russian invasion of Ukraine and humanitarian challenges in Afghanistan after the dispensation of Afghan Taliban in government, ReliefWeb report shows that around 274 million people need humanitarian assistance and protection in 2022. With changing geopolitical scenario of the globe, it has become an hour’s need to give humanitarian support to all the ones who need it. And all the ones who step forward to help deserves financial and support assistance.
World Humanitarian Day gives an opportunity to give a standing ovation to the ones who serve people selflessly, learn from their experiences and support all the humanitarians around the world.
