Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan’s star fast bowler, has been disqualified from the Asia Cup, greatly relieving Indian openers. Due to a bothersome knee issue, the left-arm seamer missed the ODI series against the Netherlands and will be unavailable for the continental tournament. On August 28, Pakistan and India will play each other in the tournament’s opening match.
Shaheen Afridi won’t be playing in the forthcoming series against England or the Asia Cup 2022, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Saturday. The 21-year-old sustained a ligament injury to his right knee while playing for Pakistan in Galle last month. Afridi has been urged to take four to six weeks off by the PCB advisory committee and outside experts. Prior to Australia’s hosting of the T20 World Cup in October, he is anticipated to return to competitive cricket.
Dr. Najeebullah Soomro, Chief Medical Officer of PCB: “I have spoken with Shaheen, and while he is obviously disappointed by the news, he is a brave young man who has pledged to come back forcefully to serve his country and team. It is now obvious that he will need more time and is likely to return to competitive cricket in October, despite the fact that he has made progress during his recovery in Rotterdam.
The player will be extensively monitored by PCB’s Sports & Exercise Medicine Department in the upcoming weeks to ensure his safe return to competitive cricket.
Shaheen will continue to train with the team while he completes his recovery. We’ll soon reveal Shaheen’s successor for the ACC T20 Asia Cup.
