In a statement released on Tuesday, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) cautioned all television stations in the country from broadcasting any material critical of the country’s government.
TV broadcasters have been told by the media regulator not to propagate propaganda, misinformation, or distortion about the institutions.
To paraphrase PEMRA, the misinformation and deception produced by the media and its hosts and guests casts doubt on the institutions’ integrity and credibility
“The broadcast of such material is in contravention of the directions given by the authority, the terms of PEMRA Electronic Media (programmes and adverts) Code of Conduct 2015 and the principles set down by the Superior Courts,” PEMRA said in a statement.
