A 72-feet tall Alam has been installed at Kotli Imam Hussain, the largest Imambargah of Dera Ismail Khan, which is said to be the largest Alam in Pakistan. The arrangements for installing this Alam were handled by Gulla Shah, Administrator of Kotli Imam Hussain.
Gulla Shah while talking to The Asian Mirror about the details of Alam said, when he went to Karbala in 2019, he saw a huge Alam at the entrance of Karbala.
He said that We (Shia people of Dera Ismail Khan) call Kotli Imam Hussain, Karbala and it was my wish to plant a big Alam like Karbala in Kotli Imam Hussain, to fulfill my wish last year a 60-feet high Alam was installed in Kotli Imam Hussain, the height of the Alam is increased from 60 feet to 72 feet this year.
He said the reason for keeping the height of the Alam at 72 feet is that the Number of Martyrs of Karbala is 72. He said that the people have supported me in every way, they gave me financial as well as moral support, recently we bought a halyard (The cord or rope that ties a flag to its pole) worth Rs. 10,000 from Peshawar.
“People used to ask me to put the Alam higher than that, but I said it would create a risk of breaking the nearby power lines as the Alam would have to be supported at a height of more than 72 feet, which would cause the difficulties during the Muharram processions,” he said.
Gullah Shah added this Alam will remain hoisted till eternity and will never be lowered while I have bequeathed to my children never to let this Alam lower down.
It was also claimed that this Alam is the Tallest Alam in Pakistan.
