Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan has announced his intention to run in nine National Assembly by-elections.
By-elections will be held in the following constituencies: NA-22 Mardan, NA-24 Charsadda, NA-31 Peshawar, NA-45 Karam, NA-108 Faisalabad, NA-118 Nankana Sahib, NA-237 Malir, NA-239 Korangi Karachi, and NA-246 Karachi South.
According to sources, Imran Khan has decided to run in the National Assembly by-elections from these nine constituencies.
It should be noted that the PTI chairman ran in five constituencies in the 2018 general election and won all five seats.
The former Prime Minister defeated Khawaja Saad Rafiq from NA-131 Lahore, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi from NA-53 Islamabad, Syed Ali Raza of MQM Pakistan from NA-243, Ubaidullah Khan of PML-N from NA-95 Mianwali, and Akram Khan Durrani from NA 35 Bannu in the 2018 general election.
On September 25, by-elections will be held for nine National Assembly seats that became vacant after the resignations of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs were accepted.
NA -22 Mardan-III; NA-24 Charsadda-II; NA 31 Peshawar-V; NA-45 Kurram-I; NA 108 Faisalabad VIII; NA 118 Nankana Sahib- II; NA 237 Malir- II; NA 239 Korangi Karachi- I; and NA 246 Karachi South I are the constituencies where by-elections will be held.
According to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) schedule, public notices will be issued by returning officers (ROs) on August 6, and candidates can file nomination papers from August 10 to August 13. By August 14, the ECP will have published a final list of candidates who have been nominated. The ROs will complete their scrutiny of the candidates on August 17, and appeals against them can be filed until August 20.
The ECP will decide on objections against the candidates on August 25, and the final lists of candidates will be displayed on August 26, with election symbols assigned on August 29.
Due to the exhaustion of the list previously provided by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, the ECP also issued a schedule for filling one vacant reserved seat for women in the National Assembly from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PTI).
Nomination papers can be submitted from August 10 to August 13. The names of the nominated candidates will be published on August 14, and their papers will be scrutinized on August 17. The deadline for filing appeals against the returning officer’s decisions is August 20, and they will be decided until August 25.
The revised list of candidates will be released on August 26, and the final list will be released on August 27. On August 29, the list of candidates will be made public.
