Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif here on Thursday said extended full support and assistance to flood victims were the collective responsibility of Federal and Provincial Governments and we all are united on the issue of floods.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also announced an increase in the financial assistance for the flood affectees.
The PM visited the flood-affected Meeran Village of Paroa Tehsil and BandKorai Village of Paharpur Tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan District and Pai, Ranwal, Garah Shahbaz, Chirhi, Therhi and other villages of Tank District.
Addressing flood victims of BandKorai, the Prime Minister said that providing assistance and rehabilitation was the joint responsibility of all segments of the society including of the coalition Government, Provincial Governments and other relevant departments.
He said every challenge including floods could be tackled with unity and collective efforts.
He urged the KP Government to increase the compensation amount to 1 million PKR for each deceased heir and also speed up the rehabilitation process.
Besides KP Provincial Government assistance, The PM announced financial assistance of 1 Million PKR for each deceased heir, 0.2 Million for each injured, 0.25 million for partial damage to the house and 0.5 million on the complete demolition of the house during the floods. The Prime Minister said that 58pc revenue of the National Finance Commission goes to Provinces.
The Prime Minister visited the flood affected villages of Tank District where he expressed sympathy with the flood affectees and assured of all kinds of cooperation.
The prime minister was briefed by Deputy Commissioner Tank Hameedullah Khattak, a total of 437 houses were damaged during the flood, the flood also devastated the standing crops, livestock in Pai, Ranwal and its adjoining villages Garah Shahbaz, Chirhi and Therhi.
PM Shehbaz Sharif also meeted with the flood affectees and minor children, when a senior citizen in Pai told Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif while crying that any Prime Minister has never come to our area in more than 60 years, the PM embraced him.
In Tank, the PM visited three medical camps and one temporary camp set up in the Amakhel area.
The Prime Minister also visited the flood affected area Meeran of Prova Tehsil. Mr. PM also visited a relief camp established in a Ramak School where about 200 to 300 families were given food and noon food items besides provision of medical treatment.
The PM was briefed that flash floods damaged about 293 houses besides destroying 1720 hectares of agricultural land. The prime minister also interacted with flood affected people and assured full support of the government in this challenging time.
The Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif addressed at certain points during the visit flood-hit areas of Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
Mr. Shehbaz said a joint survey of Federal, Provincial Governments, NDMA, PDMA and other relevant authorities would be conducted for the assessment of crops and livestock damages caused by floods so that compensation amount could be provided to genuine affected people.
Mr. PM also directed the National Highways Authority (NHA) to immediately start the reconstruction of the destroyed roads after completion of the survey.
He said that Pakistan was created after alot of sacrifices by our forefathers under the dynamic leadership of Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and we need to work for its devolopment, every challenge can be countered by strictly adhering to teaching of the Holy Quran and Sunnah of the Holy Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.
The Prime Minister said the poor countries that achieved progress were because of hardwork and Pakistan has all resources including mines and minerals, rivers besides human resources to achieve rapid progress and prosperity through hard work and discipline.
The PM added that Pakistan can achieve economic prosperity and come out of the influence of the IMF after effective utilization of natural resources.
PDM Chief Maulana Fazal Ur Rehman also accompanied the PM on his visit.
Speaking on the occasion, Maulana Fazl ur Rehman said that work on Nawaz Sharif Govt’s mega projects that was halted during last fours in D I Khan would be restarted and the Prime Minister would be requested to come again to D I Khan to announce more mega projects for people of southern districts of the province.
Senior Deputy Amir of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Dera and Maulana Fazl’s brother Maulana Obaid ur Rehman drew attention of PM to the destruction of the river system and the closure of natural flood channels due to non-cleaning of the rivers.
The local leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-N was not considered worthy of attention and all the management of the visit was in the hands of the Local Leadership of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl).
On the visit of PM Shehbaz in Village Meeran of Prova Tehsil, all the arrangements were in the hands of MPA Prova Maulana Lutf ur Rahman in village Meeran of Prova
All the arrangements in Paharpur were made by Maulana Fazlur Rahman’s brother Maulana Ziaur Rahman, while the arrangements in Tank were made by Minister of Communication and Postal Services and MNA Mufti Asad Mehmood and MPA Tank Mahmood Khan Bhettanni.
The PM also lauded the NDMA, PDMAs and the ministers concerned for putting in their efforts to ensure early relief and rehabilitation of the affected people.
The visit was made after PDM Chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman requested the Prime Minister to visit the flood affected areas of D I Khan and Tank Districts.
