Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has asked the NDMA to pay compensation to the families of those who died in the recent flood and rain-related disasters within 24 hours.

The prime minister issued these directives during his visit to Quetta on Monday when he will evaluate relief efforts in flood-affected areas of Balochistan.

PM Shehbaz further directed that the compensation payment for partially or completely demolished houses be increased to Rs500,000.

He stated that the lack of care devoted to dams in the country was a national tragedy. The task ahead of us is enormous, but we must all fight it together, he continued. He praised the NHA’s repair and relief efforts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz stated that unprecedented torrential rains wrecked damage on a massive scale, emphasizing the importance of establishing a network of medical camps in the afflicted districts.

He was saddened that, in addition to the loss of precious lives, the infrastructure had been damaged. He reaffirmed the Federal and Balochistan governments’ determination to restore and rebuild the flood-ravaged province. He urged the wealthy to participate in charity initiatives in this time of need.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Akhtar Nawaz, Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority, informed Prime Minister Nawaz of relief and rescue efforts.

He said that the latest wet spell brought 500 percent more rain to Balochistan, breaking a 30-year-old record.

Balochistan’s chief secretary stated during a briefing that 136 people have died and 70 have been injured so far. He did, however, state that 1,100 persons were treated for minor injuries in flood and rain-related situations.

He said that 200,000 acres of agricultural land had been flooded. According to the CS, up to 20,500 people have been relocated to safer areas, and the M8 and Quetta-Karachi Highway have been partially rebuilt and reopened to traffic.

The prime minister was accompanied by Federal Ministers Sardar Israr Tareen, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Maulana Abdul Wasay, Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti, Minister of State Muhammad Hashim Notezai, Member of National Assembly Salahuddin Ayubi, and Chairman NDMA.
