Dua Zehra’s husband gets protective bail from LHC

Justice Aalia Neelum of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday granted protective bail to Zaheer Ahmed, Dua Zehra’s husband.

After Dua Zehra’s medical report indicating her age to be between 15 and 16 years old was presented in a court in Karachi, Zaheer sought bail from the LHC through his attorney out of fear of being arrested by the police.

Dua Zehra’s parents reported her missing in the middle of April, and it was later discovered that she had wed Zaheer Ahmed in Lahore. Zaheer Ahmed’s parents have since denied this, and they have taken to numerous forums to support their position that Dua Zehra is a minor girl.

In response to allegations made by Dua Zehra’s father, Mehdi Kazmi, the judicial magistrate (East) ordered authorities to produce Zaheer Ahmed’s phone call transcripts from April 15 to April 19, the boy who allegedly abducted and married the adolescent.

In the meantime, the Sindh High Court (SHC) sent notices to the Sindh Home Department, Inspector General of Police of Sindh, Zaheer Ahmed, and others requesting their responses by July 21 regarding Kazmi’s new petition for the teenager’s return.
