In an implicit warning to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which is holding a public rally in Islamabad today (Saturday), Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah has stated that no disruptive element will be able to lay siege to the federal capital, warning PTI workers that the administration will use active teargas shells this time.
The interior minister was speaking at a memorial service for police martyrs in Islamabad. During the PTI long march on May 25, Sanaullah praised the efforts of police officers, saying that the Islamabad police, with the assistance of other agencies, consigned a “violent gang” to “hell.”
“A ‘violent gang’ launched an attack on Islamabad on May 25. But the Islamabad police, Rangers, and FC officials repulsed their attack and saved the federal capital. I salute them,” Sanaullah said adding that the law enforcers did not save Islamabad, rather they saved democracy.
The interior minister rued that the ‘violent gang’ used to call his names.
“The PTI said that the administration fired expired teargas shells on the marchers on May 25. But, beware, this time we will fire active shells on them,” Sanaullah warned.
IMF making us dance to its tune for paltry sum of $1b
According to the interior minister, a defective agreement with the International Monetary Fund was reached three years ago.
“For only $1 billion, the Fund is forcing us to dance to its song,” Sanaullah said, adding that if the right decisions had been made earlier, our economy would not have been so badly damaged.
Taking a shot at Imran Khan, the minister called him an egoist who refused to listen to anyone. He claimed Imran Khan’s politics were based on hatred and disorder. He believed that “the country would advance if we all sat together.” However, he noted that, with the exception of one political party, all other parties were eager to work together to tackle the country’s problems.
Govt took tough decisions to save the country
Commenting on the economic condition of the country, Sanaullah said the government took tough decisions to save Pakistan from the economic crisis. He said the government did not want to increase petrol prices but ‘we had to take this decision to save the country’. He said all political parties are striving hard to put Pakistan on right track.
Rich tribute to martyrs of police
Sanaullah paid great homage to the police martyrs on this occasion for their sacrifices in protecting law and order. Martyrs’ sacrifices, he added, might affect the fate of nations.
He regretted the delay in paying compensation to martyrs’ families. He stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif immediately authorized the payment of Rs1.22 billion to the families of martyrs.
He claimed that over 12,000 Rangers, Police, and Army personnel have been killed in the fight against terrorism. He claimed that Pakistan’s economy has suffered $150 billion in harm as a result of the fight against terrorism.
He stated that the government was building a 100-bed hospital for the Islamabad police. He further claimed that the pay of Islamabad police officers was raised to match those of Punjab officers.
He also announced an increase in FC officers’ ration allowance.
