Plots allotment to Farah Gogi: two accused presented before court

Former Faisalabad Industrial Estate Development and Management Company (FIEDMC) CEO Rana Muhammad Yousuf and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) committee secretary Maqsood Ahmad, who was arrested yesterday on charges of illegally selling an industrial land at a rate far less than its actual price to Farah Gogi, will appear before the special court.

The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) arrested Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Gogi, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi, and her mother on Friday in connection with the fraudulent allotment of two 10-acre industrial plots. Farah Gogi was allegedly duped into buying plots worth Rs600 million from the former CEO of FIEDMC and the secretary of the SEZ committee for Rs80 million.

The FIEDMIC Board of Directors has also formed an inquiry committee to look into the claims.

Former National Assembly speaker and PML-N leader Ayaz Sadiq has criticized the Special Economic Zone for corruption.

The anti-corruption bureau also launched an investigation into the establishment of Mongolia Housing Society in Gujranwala by Ghausia Builders, Gogi’s construction firm, whose plots she reportedly sold despite the fact that they did not exist.

According to sources, the agency also requested records from the Gujranwala Development Authority for this purpose.

Following complaints from victims of the alleged scam, the ACE launched an investigation into Gogi.

Since the PTI lost office, Gogi has been scrutinized by the PML-N-led coalition government, giving the appearance that the new government intends to settle scores with former Prime Minister Imran Khan, whose wife Bushra is close to Gogi.

Initially, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) opened an investigation against her.
