Government College University (GCU) Lahore decided on Monday to install a machine to deliver sanitary pads to female students and staff.
GCU Lahore has chosen to install automatic vending machines on its main campus to serve female students and professors with women’s hygiene items such as sanitary pads.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi and Wonder Woman Pakistan creator Mohammad Uzair Masood.
A big number of female students attended the event, which was hosted in GCU’s recently erected Women Development Center.
The VC went on to say that it is unfortunate that periods are viewed as a bad thing or an ugly stain, causing women in society to face a variety of problems for no apparent reason, and that with this initiative, GCU’s Women Development Center is taking a step toward the empowerment of female students.
According to information, one Wonder Woman Pakistan vending machine will be installed in the Women’s Development Center and another in the Women’s Rest Room in Bukhari Auditorium, where female students will be able to readily obtain high-quality products at reasonable prices.
In Pakistan, 79% of women do not have regular access to sanitary products, education, or sanitation services.
Mrs Sumera Khalil, director of the GCU Women Development Center, stated that this initiative is a breath of fresh air for the thousands of GCU students who face numerous challenges during their menstrual cycle.
