Garcia wins WTA title since 2019 in Bad Homburg

In the final of the WTA competition in Bad Homburg on Saturday, world number 75 Caroline Garcia defeated Bianca Andreescu 6-7 (5/7), 6-4, 6-4 after coming back from a set down.

It was the French player’s first victory since Nottingham in 2019 and her eighth career triumph at age 28.

The Canadian Andreescu won the tiebreak, and the former world number four lost the opening set.

Nevertheless, Garcia fought back to break twice in the second set before finally winning the match in the third set when neither player could maintain their serve.

Garcia will compete against world No. 206, a British-Japanese. Wimbledon’s first-round opponent is Yuriko Miyazaki, and Andreescu will take on American qualifier Emina Bektas.
