Australia agrees to provide 6,000 visas to Pakistani students

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar met with Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to address matters of common interest.

Ms. Khar stressed the importance of strengthening commercial and economic connections with the UK during her meeting with PM Johnson. She and he also discussed Afghanistan and other matters of interest.

Ms. Khar said in a tweet that the UK and Pakistan had both decided to strengthen their commercial and economic ties.

The state minister for foreign affairs met British PM Johnson in Kigali, Rwanda on the side-lines of the 26th Heads of Government Meeting.

Ms. Khar also contacted Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles on this occasion, and the two spoke about issues of shared interest. She also touched on the issue of Pakistani students’ visa issues in Australia.

She asked the deputy premier of Australia to resolve the immigration issues for Pakistani students who were studying there but returned home during the Covid 19 pandemic.

Deputy Prime Minister Marles of Australia concurred to grant visas to 6,000 Pakistani students.
