IMF Resident Representative for Pakistan Esther Perez Ruiz said in a statement on Thursday that the IMF did not ask Pakistan to renegotiate CPEC IPP contracts.
Such claims, she stated, were simply false.
She went on to say that the IMF backed the Pakistani government’s multi-pronged strategy to resurrect the country’s energy sector, which distributed the burden among all stakeholders, including the government, producers, and consumers.
It should be noted that the IMF has asked Pakistan to renegotiate the CPEC energy deals before making payments of around Rs300 billion to the Chinese power plants, according to media reports.
