Today I wish to share about a disease with you all, which is very common but at the same time goes undetected and untreated for a long time due to its unconventional nature. By that I mean just like mental illness, diseases like Fibromyalgia which I am going to talk about today are often ignored and their intensity and effect upon a patient are undermined due to several factors which in my opinion are a complete nuisance, but whom I to say, we still live in a world where diseases like Depression which cause even more death then depression are still ignored. Anxiety is considered a façade, and Irritable bowel syndrome is nothing more than a month.
Nevertheless getting to the point let’s get you all aware of the disease Fibromyalgia so that we act in an empathic rather than ignorant way when we come across someone who suffers from Fibromyalgia. Moreover, if you are someone who suffers from Fibromyalgia this article might be helpful for you too.
First of all, let’s see what Fibromyalgia is. It is a condition that causes extensive musculoskeletal pain, as well as fatigue, sleep, cognitive, and mood problems. Fibromyalgia is thought to amplify painful sensations by altering how the brain and spinal cord interpret painful and nonpainful signals. People with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain than people without fibromyalgia and this is an aspect that people do not understand Doctors who are not well aware of the disease, tend to see the expression of pain as a mere exaggeration.
Furthermore like every disease has a cause this disease does not have a specific cause, however, it does have a tragic twist to it as it often is a result of childhood abuse, children who are physically and mentally abused are more inclined towards developing this disease from the age of 18 to 22. Moreover, other causes are also considered as a result of trauma, and then comes genetics or certain infections which could trigger this disease.
Now fibromyalgia does not come on its own it is accompanied by several other symptoms which are separate diseases in themselves like Chronic fatigue syndrome, Migraine and other types of headache, Interstitial cystitis or painful bladder syndrome, Temporomandibular joint disorder, Anxiety, Depression, Postural tachycardia syndrome and Irritable bowel Syndrome.
Above all major depression is more common. Adults with fibromyalgia are more than three times as likely as adults without the condition to suffer from serious depression. The importance of depression prevention and diagnosis cannot be overstated.
Suicide and injury deaths are at an all-time high. Suicide and injury deaths are more common in fibromyalgia patients, while overall mortality is comparable to the general population.
Now when we talk about treatments, Fibromyalgia has no cure. Although there is a silver lining which is that this disease can be managed and more help can be sought out with alternative treatments.
Now the purpose of this article is to not flaunt the medical knowledge or scare you with a disease but rather spread awareness, people with fibromyalgia go through a lot as stated above, the suicide rates in people with the disease, the symptoms which are accompanied, it is a constant turmoil for a person living with it.
Thus this article is a plea to everyone that if you know someone with the disease please don’t say they are lazy or they are exaggerating or that their reports do not show anything such as fibromyalgia, well it is a disease that is not seen in the reports. Please be kind, compassionate, and understanding, it is a real disease with real consequences and pain. Hence, the purpose of this article is a please via spreading awareness about the disease. I hope you all try and understand and be empaths not ignorant brats.
