According to a notification released by the Establishment Division, the PTI administration has changed its finance secretary again, choosing Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh in lieu of Yousaf Khan on an interim basis.
“Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh, a BS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS) currently posted as Additional Secretary (Incharge), Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Division, is transferred and posted as Additional Secretary (Incharge), Finance Division, with immediate effect and until further orders,” read the December 2 notification.
Khan, who was appointed finance secretary in May 2021, has been named secretary of the Council of Common Interests Secretariat (CCI).
Six finance secretaries have changed during PTI’s three years and four months in office. When the IMF contract was being negotiated, Younas Dagha was replaced.
According to a source in The News, “the decision to replace Yousaf Khan is a timely one because the ministry faced a difficult scenario at the recently-held parleys with the IMF for the conclusion of the Sixth Review.”
Abdul Aziz Uquaili, a BS-21 officer employed as additional secretary (in-charge) of the planning, development, and special initiatives department, was also notified and appointed by the government.
